How aerosol direct effects influence the source contributions to PM

摘要: Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area is the most air polluted region in China and the three neighborhood southern Hebei cities, Shijiazhuang, Xingtai, and Handan, are listed in the top ten polluted cities with severe PM pollution. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the impacts of aerosol direct effects on air quality over the southern Hebei cities, as well as the impacts when considering those effects on source apportionment using three dimensional air quality models. The WRF/Chem model was applied over the East Asia and northern China at 36 and 12 km horizontal grid resolutions, respectively, for the period of January 2013, with two sets of simulations with or without aerosol-meteorology feedbacks. The source contributions of power plants, industrial, domestic, transportation, and agriculture are evaluated using the Brute-Force Method (BFM) under the two simulation configurations. Our results indicate that, although the increases in PM concentrations due to those effects over the three southern Hebei cities are only 3%–9% on montly average, they are much more significant under high PM loadings (~50 μg·m when PM concentrations are higher than 400 μg m ). When considering the aerosol feedbacks, the contributions of industrial and domestic sources assessed using the BFM will obviously increase (e.g., from 30%–34% to 32%–37% for industrial), especially under high PM loadings (e.g., from 36%–44% to 43%–47% for domestic when PM >400 μg·m ). Our results imply that the aerosol direct effects should not be ignored during severe pollution episodes, especially in short-term source apportionment using the BFM.

DQB1*060101 may contribute to susceptibility to immunoglobulin A nephropathy in southern Han Chinese

Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is a common form of chronic glomerulonephritis with unknown pathogenesis. Accumulating evidences have shown the ethnic-specific association between certain human leukocyte antigen (HLA) alleles and IgAN susceptibility. This study was designed to explore the relationship between HLA-DQB1 alleles and disease susceptibility and clinical manifestations of patients with IgAN in southern Han Chinese. A PCR sequence-based typing technique was used to detect HLA-DQB1 alleles in 217 IgAN patients and 229 healthy subjects. Clinical data were collected from each patient at the time of renal biopsy. Twenty HLA-DQB1 alleles were detected in IgAN patients and healthy subjects. High frequency of HLA-DQB1*060101 and low frequency of HLA-DQB1*030101 were observed in IgAN patients compared with healthy controls. Further stratification analysis revealed that the frequency of DQB1*060101 was significantly higher in patients with urine protein≥1.0 g/24 h than in patients with urine protein<1.0 g/24 h. In combination with our previous DRB1 results, we also analyzed the association of DRB1-DQB1 haplotypes with IgAN. We found that the frequency of haplotype DRB1*090102-DQB1*060101 was significantly higher [odds ratio (OR) = 4.409, Pc = 0.016], whereas that of HLA-DRB1*070101-DQB1*020101 was significantly lower (OR= 0.194, Pc = 0.016) compared with healthy controls. Our study indicated that HLA-DQB1*060101 alleles may be a potential predictor of high-risk IgAN susceptibility in Chinese Han population.

of government investment for air pollution control in city clusters: A case from the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei

摘要: Air pollution poses a significant threat to human health, particularly in urban areas with high levels of industrial activities. In China, the government plays a crucial role in managing air quality through the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan. The government provides direct financial support and guides the investment direction of social funds to improve air quality. While government investment has led to improvements in air quality across China, concerns remain regarding the efficiency of such large-scale investments. To address this concern, we conducted a study using a three-stage data envelopment analysis (DEA)-Malmquist model to assess the efficiency of government investment in improving air quality in China. Our analysis revealed regional disparities and annual dynamic changes. Specifically, we focused on the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei areas as a case study, as the investment primarily targeted industrial activities in urban areas with the goal of improving living conditions for urban residents. The results demonstrate significant differences in investment efficiency between regions. Beijing exhibits relatively high investment efficiency, while cities in Hebei Province require improvement. We identified scale inefficiency, which refers to the ratio of air pollutant reduction to financial investment, as the main factor contributing to regional disparities. However, we found that increasing the total investment scale can help mitigate this effect. Furthermore, our study observed positive but fluctuating annual changes in investment efficiency within this city cluster from 2014 to 2018. Investment-combined technical efficiency, which represents the investment strategy, is the main obstacle to improving yearly investment efficiency. Therefore, in addition to promoting investment strategies at the individual city level, it is crucial to enhance coordination and cooperation among cities to improve the investment efficiency of the entire city cluster. Evaluating the efficiency of government investment and understanding its influencing factors can guide future investment measures and directions. This knowledge can also support policymaking for other projects involving substantial investments.

Comprehensive health condition assessment on partial sewers in a southern Chinese city based on fuzzy

摘要: A self-developed sewer health assessment system using the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation and analytical hierarchy process was applied to give a comprehensive health condition evaluation on part of the local sewers in a southern Chinese city based on the sewer video data collected by a sewer inspection closed circuit television (CCTV) robot. Aside from the overall condition evaluation, the structure, function, and stability status of the sewer were also analyzed using the method. A comprehensive index was proposed to give the overall health condition of pipes with different defects, and , , and were used to quantify the defects affecting the tightness, stability, and function of the pipe, respectively. Results show that 48% of the inspected pipes were in good condition (0< <0.25), and about 33% of the sewer pipes analyzed were categorized to be at severe or urgent condition levels ( >0.5), although most of the pipes were installed only within five years. Frequent sedimentation affects the function of the sewer, and deformation and joint damage affect the structure of the sewer.

Nutrient status and pollution levels in five areas around a manganese mine in southern China

摘要: Abstract • The soil TP level was high or extremely high in all areas. • TN, OM and available Cu were insufficient in EA, TA and RA. • All areas reached the heavily polluted level and had high ecological risk levels. • Mn and Cd were the dominant pollutants. Nutrient status and pollution levels are the main factors affecting soil restoration. The nutrient status and pollution levels in five areas, an unexplored mine area (UA), an explored mine area (EA), a tailings area (TA), a reclamation area (RA) and an agricultural area (AA), around the Pingle manganese mine in Guangxi, China, were assessed in this study. The results showed that the average total phosphorus in these five areas ranged from 1.05 to 1.57 mg/kg, corresponding to grades of extremely high and high. The average total nitrogen values were 0.19, 0.69, 0.93, 1.24 and 1.67 mg/kg in EA, TA, RA, UA and AA, corresponding to grades of very low, low, medium-low, medium-high and medium-high, respectively. The average organic matter values were 12.78, 8.92, 22.77, 21.29 and 29.11 mg/kg in EA, TA, RA, UA and AA, which corresponded to grades of medium-low, low, medium-high, medium-high and medium-high, respectively. All these results indicated that the total phosphorus was sufficient in these areas, while the total nitrogen and organic matter were insufficient in EA, TA and RA. The available concentrations of Mn and Zn corresponded to the intermediate grade, while the values for Cu corresponded to the very low grade; these might be another factor restricting ecological reclamation. Contamination and ecological risk assessments based on the single contamination index, Nemerow multi-factor index and potential ecological risk index showed that the five tested areas around the Mn mine were considered heavily polluted and presented high ecological risk. Mn and Cd were the dominant pollutants.

南方农产品产地主要环境问题成因与防治策略

摘要:

随着我国经济的快速发展,大量污染物进入农产品产地环境并逐渐超过其容量限制,引发诸多环境问题,污染事件层出不穷,农产品产量下降、质量降低,严重影响我国农业生产和农村经济的可持续发展。南方地区城镇化起步早、发展快,初期经济发展均以牺牲环境为代价,特别是土壤重金属污染问题突出,同时南方地区广泛分布的酸雨污染则强化了问题的严重性。本文以长江沿岸的主要农产品产地为研究对象,系统论述了水、土、气等多种环境要素的质量现状,并基于自然因素与人类活动影响探讨了污染成因,提出环境污染防治策略,对于提升南方农产品产地环境污染治理的科学性,保障农业可持续发展、农产品质量安全、生态环境安全和人民群众健康安全都具有重要意义。

species associated with eucalypt diseases in southern China

摘要: The genus includes several important pathogens of species of and , mainly causing leaf and shoot blight. Recently, extensive shoot and leaf dieback and stem cankers suspected to be diseases have been found on young trees in Guangdong and Hainan Provinces. The occurrence of species and their association with eucalypt hosts within China needs to be investigated for tree diseases management. The isolates from the diseased samples were identified based on their morphological structures and phylogenetic analyses with DNA sequence data for the internal transcribed spacer region and large ribosome subunit RNA of the nuclear rDNA. This work revealed that three species of were present: from , from , both isolated from young eucalypt leaves and shoots in Guangdong Province, and , which was isolated from stem cankers of at four different sites across Guangdong and Hainan Provinces. These results confirmed that agents were associated with the diseases occurring on eucalypt hosts in South China. This is the first report of in Asia and the first report of in China on trees.

Secondary aerosol formation in winter haze over the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, China

摘要: Abstract • Characteristics and interannual variation of aerosol pollution are illustrated. • Mechanisms of secondary aerosol formation in winter haze of North China are reviewed. • Directions in future studies of secondary aerosol formation are provided. Severe haze pollution occurs frequently in the winter over the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) region (China), exerting profound impacts on air quality, visibility, and human health. The Chinese Government has taken strict mitigation actions since 2013 and has achieved a significant reduction in the annual mean PM2.5 concentration over this region. However, the level of secondary aerosols during heavy haze episodes showed little decrease during this period. During heavy haze episodes, the concentrations of secondary aerosol components, including sulfate, nitrate and secondary organics, in aerosol particles increase sharply, acting as the main contributors to aerosol pollution. To achieve effective control of particle pollution in the BTH region, the precise and complete secondary aerosol formation mechanisms have been investigated, and advances have been made about the mechanisms of gas phase reaction, nucleation and heterogeneous reactions in forming secondary aerosols. This paper reviews the research progress in aerosol chemistry during haze pollution episodes in the BTH region, lays out the challenges in haze formation studies, and provides implications and directions for future research.

of economic restructuring and technology upgrade on air quality and human health in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei

摘要: Impacts of industrial restructuring and upgrade on air quality & health are assessed. An integrated approach combining different models is used for the assessment. Industrial technology upgrading is more effective than economic restructuring. Ozone is much more difficult to mitigate than PM2.5. In this study, we have analyzed possible policy options to improve the air quality in an industrialized region—Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei (BTH) in China. A comprehensive model framework integrating GAINS-China, GEOS-Chem, and IMED/HEL is established to investigate the impacts of various policies on air pollution and health effects. The model establishes a data interface between economic input/output data and the emission inventory of atmospheric pollutants in the BTH region. Based on in-depth analyses of pollutant emission standards, industrial structure, pollution-intensive industries, and emission intensities in BTH and Pearl River Delta, several scenarios are constructed to explore the effectiveness of policy pathways in improving air quality in the BTH region. These scenarios include two categories: the category of “Industrial Technology Upgrade Policy” scenarios that focuses on reducing the emission intensity of industries vs. that of “Industrial Structure Adjustment Policy” scenarios that focuses on adjusting the proportion of industrial value-added. Our results show that the policy path of industrial technology upgrading can be effective and feasible, while economic structure adjustment shows complex and mixed effectiveness. We also find that the proposed policies and measures will be efficient to reduce pollution of primary pollutants and fine particles, but may not effectively mitigate ambient ozone pollution. Ozone pollution is projected to become increasingly severe in BTH, placing a challenge to pollution mitigation strategies that requires further adjustments to address it.

: a case study for human migration in the context of sustainable dryland farming development in the Southern

摘要: The Southern Ningxia Hilly Area is one of the most impoverished areas of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (a province) of China due to an economy that mainly relies on agriculture, which is affected by droughts in two out of every three years. Government programs have attempted to develop an increased and sustainable level of scientifically based agricultural production while restoring the environment. However, since the population exceeds the capacity of the land to adequately support it, a program is underway to move 350000 people to more suitable locations. This paper outlines the past improvements to the Southern Ningxia Hilly Area and considers future development in the context of migration for ecological reasons.

京津冀地区推进能源革命的思考与对策

摘要:

京津冀协同发展是党中央国务院在新形势下的重大战略决策部署,是一项重大国家战略。本文通过分析京津冀三地能源生产、消费和结构比例的演变过程,认为京津冀地区的能源供需总体呈现偏紧的局面,虽然区域内可再生能源资源相对丰富,但是能源消费以化石能源为主,能源效率总体有待提升。京津冀协同发展战略提出六年多来,生态环境持续改善,但形势仍然严峻。能源是经济社会发展的动力来源和血液,同时又与环境密切相关,推动能源革命势在必行。为更好推进京津冀区域能源革命,研究建议:要继续做好节能增效,控制能源消费总量;抓好存量提升增量优选,优化能源供给结构;推进能源技术革命,打造经济增长新动能;推动体制革命,构建经济社会发展的良好市场环境;加快推进农村能源革命,强化农村点源污染防治,以便为促进京津冀协同发展生态环境率先突破提供咨询参考。

极区海洋碳池变化性和脆弱性及其探测工程技术

京津冀协同推进碳达峰碳中和路径研究

京津冀地区是我国能源消耗、碳排放的集聚区,研究区域内碳达峰、碳中和的推进举措,对实现高质量的区域协同发展至关重要。本文构建了考虑京津冀地区特征的长期能源替代规划系统模型(LEAP-BTH),设置了基准情景、低碳情景、协同情景等主要情景以及8个子情景,完成了2021—2060年京津冀地区相应发展路径的预测分析。结果表明:在基准情景下,京津冀地区能源需求将持续增长,2060年北京市、天津市、河北省的碳排放量分别下降为2020年的41%、40%、53%,实现碳中和目标面临较大挑战;在低碳情景下,2060 年北京市、天津市、河北省的碳排放量分别下降为 2020 年的 20%、26%、46%,相比碳中和目标仍有一定差距;在协同情景下,2060年北京市、天津市、河北省的碳排放量分别下降为2020年的13%、15%、21%,能够基本实现碳中和目标。研究建议,京津冀三省市需针对各自的重点减排部门和路径,提出更明确、更严格的应对措施,如北京市重点推动交通、建筑部门的低碳转型,天津市、河北省着力开展可再生能源替代与工业绿色升级;优化顶层设计,挖掘区域内工业、能源、交通等部门的协同发展潜力,重点推动产业协同升级和能源协同发展,据此支撑京津冀地区的“双碳”工作和高质量发展。
